Delivering on its mission to motivate every child to read, Speakaboos announced a philanthropic initiative with First Book to make its award-winning digital reading motivation platform available for free to educators and program leaders serving kids in need. Speakaboos is granting up to $3 million in individual-use platform subscriptions to educators through First Book so children, regardless of available resources in their homes, schools and communities, can become self-confident readers.
“Speakaboos recognizes the significant need in classrooms across the United States for high-quality educational content that can complement teachers’ lesson plans,” said Noelle Millholt, COO and co-founder of Speakaboos. “We strongly believe technology can be a great equalizer in bridging the literacy gap and are thrilled to offer our award-winning platform for free to kids in need through First Book and support educators’ tremendous work in developing confident, motivated readers and lifelong learners.”
In a recent survey of First Book’s existing educator network, 74 percent of respondents expressed interest in web-based education programs for their classroom or program.
“Providing free access to Speakaboos delivers on our promise to fulfill the critical needs of the educators and program leaders we serve,” said Kyle Zimmer, president and CEO of First Book. “We’re thrilled to offer this amazing digital learning resource to support reading motivation in classrooms and communities across the country. We encourage all educators working in the lives of kids in need to sign up with First Book to receive their free subscription.”
Educators and program leaders serving 70 percent or more low-income children can sign up with First Book to access the free Speakaboos offer. Parents and caretakers are encouraged to inform their child’s educator about the opportunity to access the free Speakaboos subscription.
Additional details about the free subscription can be found on the First Book website here.
